Millions of birds cross open water overnight—pushing through wind, weather, and exhaustion—until they finally reach land along the Texas coast at sunrise.
And when they arrive… they land everywhere.

- Orioles, tanagers, grosbeaks, and flycatchers refuel at eye level.

For a brief window each year, this stretch of coastline becomes one of the most extraordinary birding destinations in North America.

Rather than guessing where to go or hoping for the right timing, you will be led to established migration hotspots across the Coastal Bend and barrier islands—coordinated with light, wind, tides, and bird activity.

No bird photography background is necessary; loaner Canon cameras and lenses are available if required.

What a Typical Day Looks Like
Spring migration is driven by weather, wind, and bird activity, which means every day unfolds a little differently. Our schedule is intentionally flexible so we can adapt to conditions and focus on the best photographic opportunities available each day.
Mornings begin early, when birds are most active and the light is soft and golden. We’ll spend these hours exploring woodlots, wetlands, coastal habitats, and barrier island locations where migrating birds stop to rest and refuel.
Midday offers time to recharge, download images, enjoy meals, and talk through photography techniques, settings, and field strategies in a relaxed, informal setting.
Afternoons and evenings bring new opportunities as light softens and bird activity increases again. We’ll often photograph shorebirds, waders, and coastal species as the day winds down, ending with sunset along the Texas coast.
Each day is designed to balance photography, learning, relaxation, and the joy of being immersed in nature.

What to Bring
- Comfortable clothing for warm days and cooler mornings
- Closed-toe walking shoes (waterproof or water-resistant recommended)

- Camera gear and a long lens (400 mm) if you have it
(Loaner Canon cameras and lenses are available.) - You are welcome to bring a laptop or tablet for editing purposes during the midday break.

Kindly tell me which species you are keen to know more about. Even though birding doesn’t always work out, I will do my best to make the most of the chances.
Will you teach people how to take pictures and edit them?
Yes. Help with photography in the field and editing is available if you want it.
What about the weather?
