Questions? We’ve Got Answers.
Do I need to be an expert photographer?
Not at all! We welcome beginners and pros alike. You’ll get hands-on help in the field and leave with the knowledge (and confidence) to shoot like a pro.Can I come if I’ve never been on a boat with my camera before?
Absolutely. We’ll teach you everything you need to know. And don’t worry—we're not racing through rapids here. Our boats are calm, comfy, and built for photographers. What camera gear should I bring?
We recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera, a zoom lens (something like 100–400mm), and a tripod. We’ll have extras on hand in case you need them.Is lodging really included?
Yep! Your accommodations, meals, and boat rides are all part of the package. Just bring your camera, your memory card, and your sense of adventure.Where do I park my boots at night?
We’ll be staying in charming local lodging near Caddo Lake—quiet, cozy, and just a short hop to the boat launch. You'll rest well after a day on the water. Here is what is included:
The main house where I will be staying is a large guest house close to the lake to maximize photography time and avoid the half-hour drives from larger towns. I have other cabins also available very close, about 400-500 yards away
Canoe or kayak rentals are included with the lodging but are first come, first served
Pilot boat trips will be on a 24-foot pontoon boat that can seat up to 15 people, but I keep my groups small.
All meals. We usually eat a late breakfast or early lunch after our morning session. We will provide ample refreshments first thing in the morning and between meals. Our late breakfasts will generally be down-home Southern breakfasts from nearby cafés. Evening meals will be Southern Fried Foods and other not-so-fried meals; the menu will be available closer to workshop dates.
I do not accept $$$$ tips but would happily take any photography tips 📷 you would like to share.
During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to create a wide variety of images in this remarkable location with as much or as little help and instruction as you want. We will use a full selection of lenses to photograph everything from wide-angle landscapes to long telephotos of abundant wildlife. In this workshop, I'll show you how to catch birds in flight, one of my favorite and hardest subjects.
This is an exceptional location that can be described with many different terms: beautiful, unique, unlike any place, eerie, magical, mysterious, historical, and intriguing, but most importantly, “a paradise for photographers.”
Caddo Lake is located between Marshall, Texas, and Shreveport, Louisiana, in Uncertain, Texas. The Texas side of the lake is the major swamp area, while the Louisiana side is more open water.
We will spend about 3 hours at sunrise and sunset out on a private pontoon boat. We can do a midday adventure, look at editing techniques, or discuss photography during the workshop.
Caddo Lake (French: Lac Caddo) is a 25,400-acre lake and bayou (wetland) on the border between Texas and Louisiana. The lake is named after the Southeastern culture of Native Americans called Caddoans or Caddo, who lived in the area until their expulsion in the 19th century. It is an internationally protected wetland and includes one of the largest flooded cypress forests in the United States.
Wildlife inhabiting Caddo Lake includes owls, snakes, frogs, waterfowl, raccoons, bobcats, river otters, beavers, eagles, and alligators.
Health and Physical Considerations
All participants should be in generally good health; walking and moderate climbing may be necessary for outdoor workshops, and you will be responsible for carrying your equipment on location shoots. For this workshop, there will be minimal walking with fairly easy access to the boat. If you are taking any medications, be sure to bring a supply sufficient for the duration of the workshop. Please get in touch with us prior to registering if you have any doubts about your capacity to attend a workshop.
Changes to the Itinerary
To offer the best experience possible for the workshop participants, we reserve the right to alter the itinerary when our judgment warrants it. We may also make changes to the itinerary if new or unexpected photographic opportunities arise.

Midday
We will spend the afternoon either working on post-processing and discussing photography or taking a trip to Caddo State Park.
If you decide to kayak (included with lodging on a first-come, first-served basis) or rent at Caddo State Park and Johnson’s Ranch (rented at an extra cost), bring boots or sandals that can get wet getting in and out of the kayak. The water depth where you will be kayaking will range from inches to less than 4 feet deep. You will need a waterproof bag or cases for your camera gear while using the kayaks.
Afternoon/evening
About 3:00 pm, we will head out for an evening of birds and a sunset photo session on the boat. After we dock, we'll eat dinner together and, if the skies are clear and anyone wants to, we'll do some night photography.
Day 5: November 17th
Morning (checkout is at 10am)
On our final day, we will have our final early morning boat tour, photographing the golden cypress trees and wildlife of Caddo Lake. We will finish up with a group brunch and a final question-and-answer wrap-up session.
It will be a shorter boat ride since we have to be out of our lodging by 10am
Cost
The workshop fee per session will be $4095 per photographer.
The $2000 payment is due upon booking.
Non-photographers are welcome to join us on our midday and non-boating activities. non-photographer fee is $995 Please reach out to me to pay this fee; it covers the food and lodging.
What is included?
Lodging I have a 4-bedroom Airbnb on the water where the boat will pick us up and three very comfortable cottages about 400–500 yards away.
Your workshop fees include:
Brunch after morning tour (late breakfast or early lunch)
Plenty of water, coffee, tea and snacks
Home-cooked dinners each night will be ready shortly after the evening tour.
Full instructions and a location guide will be provided upon request.
Kayak rentals are included with lodging, unless you rent from Johnson’s Ranch.
I have reserved a chartered boat. Chartered boat tours will be in the mornings and evenings (except the morning of the 16th); if there is lightning on the water, we will visit several public locations along the lake to capture landscapes, but our main goal is to take the boat into the swamp for some once-in-a-lifetime shots. The best way to photograph Caddo Lake is from a boat, as the majority of the shoreline is under private ownership.
What's not included?
Transportation to and from the workshop, alcohol, incidental expenses, and gratuities for the boat guide—they greatly appreciate it—and items of a personal nature are not included.
Equipment Needed
To get the most from the workshop, you should have a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) or mirrorless camera, a tripod (for night sky from land), and an assortment of lenses. That being said, it is the photographer, not the camera, that makes the photo.
You will need a laptop computer to use; remember to bring all software, drivers, cords, and camera manuals when attending any workshop. We will use Adobe Lightroom Classic, Luminar Neo, and DXO Pure Raw for our post-processing.
Given the wide range of subjects and shooting scenarios, we recommend a good selection of lenses. Be sure to bring a camera backpack or bag to carry and protect your equipment from possible rain. I recommend bringing two camera bodies if you have them, as we may be shooting landscapes and, within seconds, have an opportunity for birds or wildlife requiring a telephoto lens.
We'll go out on the lake in a pontoon boat early in the morning, when it will be cold, despite possibly being in the 70s or cooler. Bring cold-weather clothing that you can layer and adjust during the day.
If you decide to kayak at Caddo State Park, where the park rents kayaks for an extra cost, please bring boots or sandals that can get wet when entering and exiting the kayak. The water depth where we will kayak ranges from inches to less than 4 feet (1.22 m) deep. You will need a waterproof bag or case for your camera gear while using the kayaks.
Registration, Payment, and Refund Policy
You can register any way you like. You can call me at (361) 396-9665, email me at info@jeffandangiephotography.com, or fill out the contact form to register and pay any amount you would like. You can pay using a check, credit card, or even cash after making the $1000 deposit. Just get ahold of me so I can make sure to get you registered. If you have a question, just reach out, and I would be delighted to answer it for you. Registration is done on a first-come, first-served basis, so register early to secure your space. A deposit of $1000 is required to reserve your space, and full payment is due by September 1, 2025. Our workshop has a limited enrollment, so we value your participation once we accept you. We are counting on you to attend. If you must withdraw from a workshop, we must receive written notice of your cancellation and then apply the following refund policy: We do not make refunds on workshop fees. We do not make partial refunds for unused portions or services of a workshop for any reason. If we can fill your space in the workshop, we will give full credit to another workshop. If we are unable to fill your space, we will issue 50% credit for a future workshop. If there are openings, I will accept last-minute registrations when possible.
We cannot assume liability for any losses or additional expenses resulting from delays or modifications in the services offered. We reserve the right to change our arrangements should conditions necessitate it or to cancel any aspect of the workshop due to exceptional circumstances.
In the unlikely event that we need to cancel a workshop, we will refund all monies paid in full. Notification of our cancellation will be made via either a telephone call or an e-mail to you at least 14 days prior to the beginning of a workshop, unless there is an emergency. Your service providers may delay the receipt of phone messages and e-mails, for which we cannot take responsibility. We cannot take responsibility for unused non-refundable airline tickets or other travel arrangements due to workshop cancellations. All workshops require a minimum participation level to avoid cancellation. We recommend you get trip insurance.
Trip Insurance
I highly recommend covering your trip with trip insurance
Liability Waiver
All participants will be required to sign a contract and liability waiver before beginning a workshop. As there is always an element of risk in any adventure associated with the outdoors, participants must read the liability release form carefully. The signed and dated release from each participant will certify that they are physically fit and capable of participating in outdoor photography exercises at field locations, and that they are fully aware of any associated risks related to those locations and the weather.
Weather
The more, the better, at least as far as the photography goes. Workshops will not be canceled, and no refunds will be made due to weather. Cancellations or delays due to weather, flight issues, or other factors will not incur additional costs for us. Participants should come to the workshop prepared for all weather conditions.
